Disclosure first: this comparison is published by the team that makes Blackmount. We have kept the claims about Workona to things you can confirm on their own site.
These two tools are less like competitors and more like answers to different questions. Workona asks "how should your work be organized?" and gives you persistent workspaces that hold tabs, docs, and tasks, shared with your team. Blackmount asks "how do you get these tabs back later, on a different machine?" and gives you one-click sessions that sync. Both sync to the cloud. Only one of them expects you to change how you work.
Quick comparison
| Tool | Core model | Cloud sync | Browsers | Account required | Team features | Price |

| Workona | Persistent workspaces | Yes | Chromium + Firefox | Yes | Yes | Free (capped) / from ~$7 mo |
What Workona is genuinely better at
If you and four colleagues are running the same three projects all quarter, Workona is the better product and we will say so plainly. A workspace is a durable container: the tabs for that project, the Google Docs, the tasks, the app links, all in one place, all synced, all shareable with the people working on it with you. Switching projects becomes switching workspaces instead of hunting through tab soup.
That team layer is the thing Blackmount does not have. Shared workspaces, team-visible resources, and the "everyone lands in the same organized view" benefit are real and they matter in an organization. Workona also runs on Chromium browsers and Firefox, so it is not Chrome-locked the way most session managers are.
What the workspace model costs you
Workspaces are a commitment. You adopt Workona's structure, and it works best once you have put your work into that structure — a learning curve rather than an instant win, though how long that takes will depend on you and we have not measured it. It also requires an account before you can try anything, and because it is cloud-centered, the experience degrades when you are offline.
Then there is price and shape. The free tier caps how many workspaces you can keep, and paid plans start around $7/month — reasonable for a team tool with a team budget behind it, less so for one person who wanted somewhere to put 40 tabs before a flight. Workona is a work operating system. If you are not looking for one, most of what you pay for sits unused.
Where Blackmount fits instead
Blackmount is deliberately the lighter tool. Click once and the current window is saved as a session, with its titles and URLs. Click again later — on a different browser, a different computer, or your iPhone — and it comes back. There is no structure to design first and nothing to maintain. Guest Mode works with no account and fully offline, so you can test the whole idea before deciding whether you trust us with anything.
Sessions can also carry context Workona has no equivalent for: a voice note recorded straight onto a session, and captured AI chats stored alongside the tabs that produced them, so the Claude or ChatGPT conversation behind your reading list is searchable next to the reading list itself. And the browser list is wider — Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Brave, Vivaldi, Opera, plus iPhone.
Pricing follows the same logic. Guest Mode is free and offline, a free account gets you sync within limits, and Pro is $0.99/mo for unlimited sync. That is priced for one person, not a seat count.
The short version
- A team coordinating shared projects, docs, and tasks → Workona. That is what it is for.
- You live in 4-5 long-running projects and want durable structure → Workona.
- You want sessions saved and restored across browsers and devices, no structure to adopt → Blackmount.
- You want to start without an account or work offline → Blackmount Guest Mode.
- You are one person and $7/month for tab management feels steep → Blackmount at $0.99/mo.
Nothing stops you running both, and some people should: Workona for the team's projects, Blackmount for the ad-hoc research sessions that do not belong in anyone's workspace.
